Anybody got any advise? I need to decide on taking a job at a halfway house for ex cons. They pay is half what I got at my last place. I found out about it by doing visits at the Harford County Detention Center, particularly to visit people who don't have any family or friends around to visit them.

Can't decide.

They want a one year commitment and the hours are from 4:00pm till 12:00 am.

Wellllll... that is a tough one. I have 2 different jobs working w/the elderly and with a kid who has autism & cerebral palsy. I work a 12 hr day 3 days a week and a 4 hr day twice a week. I work a bit on most weekends as well. I have found that I don't have ANY desire or energy to do my regular art since I started doing this. But I am finally not in much danger or getting evicted either. The only creative thing that I do is Second Life ( making things and taking pics) so I'm not sure if this work that I do has changed my type of creativity or stifled it. I used to do photo emulsion which you would have to see to understand:) So, I think it might be wise to try out the job, the hours sound OK to me ( I am a night person though) to get on your feet.. you can always quit. Sometimes the inspiration you can get from others in a job situation ( like the one you described) can really work as long as it doesn't suck your soul. Just my thoughts....

Wow, I am go glad you chose to comment. I put this problem out there and you are the only one that has piped up and offered anything.

A couple of my friends here have told me to take it as well. So I tried, for the last few days I've been calling them with no answer. Tomorrow I will go there to see if they are still on the planet.

I also think maybe just a change will help me. I'm kind of ... stuck. My life is a bit of a mess and I don't think I am happy. I'm not motivated to paint, etc. just existing and I hate that.

Yes, you may need a change - and you probably do need $. I don't think it would hurt to take the job and get some regular income to help with the bills. Are they at all flexible, if you need time to go away to do you art work/shows?
